History

The idea for Metropolis Resort started over twenty years ago with a family in Eau Claire. As Mark and Julie Steil raised their daughter, they found the fun in this town to be limited to movies and bowling and decided that Eau Claire could use a little Action and a little Chaos. With his experience in construction and contracting, Mark began to draw out his visions for a place that he and his daughter would find fun. It was during this process that Mark met Tom and Shirley Hahn, a local grocer and restauranteur couple, who agreed on the need and they became partners. After a nationwide tour of attractions and years of planning, Action City opened in 2005, followed by Metropolis Hotel and Chaos waterpark in 2008 with their third partner couple, Deb and Kerry Kjelstad. Two years later, Metropolis Resort was created as one business out of the combination of the three.

This place is so much fun to bring kids to. You can go to the waterpark and have the convenience of going back to your hotel room for meals or breaks. The rock climbing, arcade, bumper cars and go karts were a great time also! We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious. We will definitely come again. Wisconsin people are so friendly and welcoming!

Our 9 and 7 year old.had a great time on the slides, lazy river, hot tub and pool. The main slide goes slow when sitting upright. The kids also had fun in the arcade. All of the younger kids working at the resort seem very nice and friendly. Makes for a great place to stay and play. The food and drinks were also good.

We had a great time. We plan to return. The service at The Pub was good and the servers were pleasant. Food was good. Action City is a great value. Check-in was inconvenient and took much too long. Housekeeping somewhat lacking.

Very expensive hotel and the staff was not at all friendly. No military discount for suites. The water park chlorine smell was so strong we couldn't stand to be in there. Action city was super fun, but very busy noon-5. All day pass was expensive but worth it to be there during off hours. No breakfast included but the family breakfast delivered to the room was a good option. Again it was expensive for the quality. Overall, I am glad we tried it but we won't be back.

Kids had fun at the water park and trampoline park, but they didn't really have an area for babies/toddlers. Our whole family went, so we stayed in the big room for groups called the Locker Room. It was much smaller than expected and though it sleeps 20 people, it really only fits kids; adults would be squished. It has games which is nice, but the air hockey puck kept getting stuck so the maintenance man had to come fix it three times. One of the shelves was broken on the fridge and one of the heaters was stuck on A/C and wouldn't stop blowing cold air. It was a fun weekend trip, just not 5 star.
