Mission Statement:

Renaissance Theaterworks' (RTW's) mission is to create moving theater that awakens our recognition of what it is to be human - from classics to world premieres - with attention to women's roles onstage and off. RTW is Milwaukee's only women-founded, women-run theatre company.

Located in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward, RTW produces intimate and moving theatre at The Studio Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center.

About Us:

Renaissance Theaterworks was founded in 1993 by Suzan Fete, Marie Kohler, Raeleen McMillion, Jennifer Rupp and Michele Traband. Around Marie's kitchen table, these five "Renaissance Women" conceptualized the theatre company that Milwaukee audiences have come to treasure.

Their expertise in theatre included acting, directing, writing, administration and business management. The formation of RTW was meant to address the lack of professional opportunities available to women in theatre. RTW is inclusive in its hiring practices and uses the talents of both men and women in their productions, administration and board of directors.

Suzan, Marie and Jennifer have continued to serve as Renaissance's Co-Artistic Directors. In 2001, Renaissance hired it's first full-time employee. Julie Swenson, who continues to serve as Producing Director, has worked with the Co-Artistic Directors and vibrant Board of Directors to grow Renaissance and achieve the artistic and fiscal success the company celebrates today.
